How We Evaluate Products

Every product on this site goes through the same evaluation process. No exceptions for sponsors, no shortcuts for popular brands. Here's exactly how we decide what makes the list.

The Process

01

Research + Selection

We identify products based on real needs in our community — not trending products or paid placement requests. Every product starts with a question: what problem does this solve?

02

Hands-On Testing

We use every product we recommend in real conditions, for a minimum of two weeks. Not lab testing — real life. Morning routines, training sessions, travel, and recovery protocols.

03

Criteria Scoring

Each product is scored against five weighted criteria (detailed below). Products must meet a minimum threshold across all categories to be recommended.

04

Ongoing Review

Recommendations aren’t permanent. We revisit products regularly and remove anything that no longer meets our standards or has been superseded by a better option.

Evaluation Criteria

Each product is scored across five dimensions. The weighting reflects what matters most for long-term utility.

Functional Value

30%

Does this product solve a real problem? We evaluate whether the tool addresses a genuine need in movement, recovery, breath training, or environmental optimization — not just marketing claims.

What we ask

  • Does it solve a clearly defined problem?
  • Is the mechanism of action supported by evidence or sound reasoning?
  • Does it provide value that can’t be achieved for free?

Build Quality + Durability

20%

Products that break or degrade quickly don’t make our list. We evaluate materials, construction, and real-world longevity over weeks and months of use.

What we ask

  • Will it last through consistent daily use?
  • Are the materials appropriate for the intended use?
  • Does the build quality justify the price point?

Simplicity + Usability

20%

The best tools are the ones you actually use. We favor products that are intuitive, require minimal setup, and integrate naturally into daily routines.

What we ask

  • Can someone start using it within minutes?
  • Does it require ongoing maintenance or accessories?
  • Will it integrate into an existing routine without friction?

Value for Money

15%

Expensive doesn’t mean better. We assess whether the product delivers results proportional to its cost, and whether cheaper alternatives exist that perform equally well.

What we ask

  • Is the price proportional to the benefit?
  • Are there cheaper alternatives that perform similarly?
  • Does it provide ongoing value or is it a one-time novelty?

Alignment with Principles

15%

Every recommendation must align with our core philosophy: optimize for function, not appearance. We don’t recommend products that rely on hype, fear, or unnecessary complexity.

What we ask

  • Does it align with evidence-based principles?
  • Does it encourage self-sufficiency rather than dependency?
  • Would we use it regardless of any affiliate relationship?

What We Won't Recommend

  • ×Products we haven’t personally used for at least two weeks
  • ×Products that rely on hype, fear-based marketing, or pseudoscience
  • ×Products where the affiliate commission influenced inclusion
  • ×Products that create dependency rather than building self-sufficiency
  • ×Products with cheaper alternatives that perform equally well
  • ×Products that add unnecessary complexity to simple practices
